About Holiday Store Hours
As Union Square is made up of so many shops and eateries, stand alone buildings as well as some indoor centers like Crocker Galleria and Westfield San Francisco City Centre, it would be impossible to keep track of all these business hours.
In an attempt to help you organize your shopping trips, we provide the hours of the major department stores in Union Square. These hours vary greatly as do all the hours of shops in Union Square but we are hoping you might be able to do some shopping in these stores while waiting for you smaller specialty store or eatery to open.

About Black Friday
Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. On this day, many retailers open very early, often at 4 a.m., or earlier, and offer promotional sales to kick off the shopping season.
Two Theories on the Origin of the Name
Theory One
The day's name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving. Use of the term started before 1966 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975.
Theory Two
Later an alternative explanation began to be offered: that "Black Friday" indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or are "in the black."
